Message from the Manager

          Dear Members!
With our recent cold winds it’s hard to believe that summer is almost here. We have had a busy May with Club events and then graduation parties. We will be quiet for a while now, but then the summer weddings will keep us busy (and in the black !) during the quieter Club season. Still, we are planning for some summer events for our members. I’m looking forward to serving you at our annual Indian Dinner, and there’s more jazz in the offing. I want to congratulate those of our student employees who have graduated during May and wish them much success. We will soon be hiring new staff members to take their place. Meanwhile, let me thank all our staff for their great job during the year. We will keep working on upgrades to the building and our services, and I will keep you informed. Looking forward to seeing you during the summer, perhaps at our early bird dinners. If you are traveling, be safe and come back ready for a fall full of Club activities. As always, you should feel free to contact me or ask for help in any club related matter.

- Felix Solomon, Manager

Passage to India – Felix’s Annual Indian Dinner

On June 15th join your friends for a culinary trip to the subcontinent, orchestrated by our manager and his loyal kitchen staff. Felix always surprises us with new delicacies and delights when he takes off his bright tie and puts on his chef’s whites. Members in the know wait for this chance to enlarge their knowledge of world cuisine. Try it! Reception at 6 p.m.; dinner and entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. All-inclusive cost: $40 per person. Reserve now: extension 224.

Golden Girlfriends Lunch

The final meeting of the coming academic year for this group will be on June 17th. All surviving spouses of Club members are eligible to join this welcoming group. Lunch costs $17, with an extra $5 charge for wine. Current members will receive notification of the meeting by mail. Others should not hesitate to call for more information: Phyllis Schafer at 510-704-9951

Buffets, Breakfast, Bargain Dinners, Bar Food Service

The popular Friday evening bargain Seafood buffet ($13.99!) continues during the summer. Come by and try it soon. The Breakfast Special, a bargain at $2.99, will continue all summer, as will the Bargain Dinners: from 5 to 6:30 eat a great meal for only $13.99. See the Club notice board for the menu of the month. The Short Order Service in theBar is now brining in people who have to work late on campus and don’t have time for a full dinner. Our kitchen can also provide Take Out Lunches that can be ordered by phone or fax. With enough notice, we can arrange delivery on campus.

Artist of the Month - June

Campus staff member and Club House Committee member Steve Finacom is trying (among other projects) to photograph our iconic Campanile from at least 1,001 different and unique perspectives. The June exhibit will display examples of this digital work in progress, including viewpoints you’ve probably never noticed, and some you’ll never see again. Steve has previously exhibited historic images of the campus at the Club, and writes a weekly column for the Berkeley Voice newspaper on local history.

Jazz at the Club

Another perennial favorite! The San Francisco Feetwarmers are returning to the Club on July 13th for an evening of brillian classic jazz. Seasoned professionals, the group is known for great arrangements and thir driving four-beat rhythm gets the dancers on the floor. Enjoy this great group, along with a special dinner, for an all-inclusive $35.

Parking for Club Events

New University parking policies mean that we can no longer offer free parking for Club events. Parking is still available in the structure across Bancroft from the Art Museum, but at a cost of $10. You can arrange for parking at the time you make your reservations, or, for major events like the Mothers’ Day brunch, buy a permit from the attendant at the structure. Check with reservations clerk, Mayra at ext. 224
