Founded in 1902 by a group of Berkeley Faculty, the Faculty Club of the University of California is a private, mutual benefit corporation. The Club was formed "to promote mutual acquaintance and fellowship among officers of instruction and government of the University."
The government of the Club is in the hands of a Board of seven directors elected by members.
